Parts Used: Ripe Fruits in the Fall
Find It: It's one the first understory trees to bloom in the Ozarks! Deep maroon flowers hanging like upside down tulips are quite noticeable in the Ozarks understory, all you need to do is look up. They have smooth silver / light grey bark. Trees form stands and become quite tall.
When to harvest: Late Fall, Shake trees in the late fall to help drop ripe fruits.
Store it: Pawpaw ripen very quickly after harvesting. Separate fruit from seeds and skin, freeze for use all season.
